Biography
Dr. Sergio M. González specializes in 20th-century U.S. migration, labor, religion, and the development of Latino communities in the Midwest. He is the author of Mexicans in Wisconsin (2017) and Strangers No Longer: Latino Belonging and Faith in Twentieth-Century Wisconsin (2024), and co-editor of Faith and Power: Latino Religious Politics Since 1945 (2022). He dives into the relationship between Latino communities, religion, and social movements. His current research explores sanctuary movements’ influence on contemporary social movement for immigrant and refugee justice. Additionally, he analyzes the Midwest's role in U.S. immigration politics. Beyond academia, he engages in public humanities as a historian for the new Wisconsin History Museum, and co-hosts The Look Back (Wisconsin PBS) and Sanctuary: On the Border Between Church and State Podcast (Axis Mundi Media).
