We extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Casey on her recent tenure and promotion to to Associate Professor of Spanish, Languages Department at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. Her steadfast commitment, impactful scholarship, and meaningful service are truly commendable. We are proud of all she has achieved and eagerly anticipate the important work she will continue to lead. Please read below to learn more about Dr. Casey’s research and professional accomplishments.


Biography

Dr. Casey teaches and researches at the intersection of Spanish and the health sciences. She is co-PI of Voces del Campo / Rural Voices, a student-faculty project training UWEC students to conduct, transcribe, translate, and analyze Spanish-language oral histories with Hispanic and Latinx communities in Wisconsin. Previously, she led research on language services and pandemic experiences for patients with limited English proficiency and served as co-investigator and Spanish Interpretation Coordinator in a practicum with UWEC’s Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences Department. Her publications and presentations cover topics including COVID-19 oral histories, healthcare access, fever, disability, and mental illness, from early modern Spain and colonial Latin America to present-day Midwest communities. She also serves on the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic’s advisory board and the Eau Claire Health Department’s Community Health Equity workgroup, promoting inclusive healthcare for Hispanic and Latinx residents in Northwest Wisconsin.
